Understanding How Your Currency Conversion Rate Is Calculated

This article explains how Adesco calculates your currency conversion rate. The market rate, Estimated rate, spreads and tiers. We are fully transparent with no hidden charges or fees.

1. Understanding the Conversion Screen

Let's use an example of a 25,000 USD conversion:

Screenshot 2026-01-26 112901

In the screen above you see:
  1. “You Sell” amount (25,000 USD)
This is the amount of foreign currency you choose to convert. It determines which tier your transaction falls into and the spread that will be used.

  2. “Estimated Value” in ILS
This shows the estimated amount you will receive in shekels, based on the current estimated rate you are seeing at that moment.

  3. Your estimated net rate (for example: 1 USD = 3.1200 ILS)
This is the estimated exchange rate you would receive at the time you are looking at the screen. This is a calculated estimated rate which includes the Adesco spread (which we take from the indicative market rate).

  4. Indicative market rate (for example: 1 USD = 3.1360 ILS)
This is the current indicative market rate for this currency pair. It is similar to what you would see if you look at an online website.

Important:
The rate that you see in the "estimated net rate" is not the final rate,

The final rate will be determined at the moment an Adesco employee approves the conversion and executes the trade.

Estimated net rate

The estimated net rate and the spread Adesco takes are impacted by the tier of your conversion (the amount you are converting) and the direction of the transaction (foreign currency to shekel vs shekels to foreign currency).

2. How Adesco calculates the estimated net rate for foreign currency to ILS  conversions (for example, USD → ILS)

Using an example rate of 1 USD = 3.2160 ILS

The following tiers are:

You sell (USD) Adesco spread
(Calculation is:
market rate - Adesco spread = net rate)
For real estate conversions where Adesco will be making multiple payments on your behalf, we take an extra spread of 0.0010 ILS per 1 USD.
$10,000 – $25,000
Minimum trade amount: $10K – rate improves as trade grows

Starts at 0.04 ILS improving to 0.016 ILS
Minimum trade amount: $10K – rate improves as trade grows

Starts at 0.04 ILS improving to 0.017 ILS
$25,000 – $500,000 0.016 ILS fixed spread
Example:
3.2160-0.016=3.2000
0.017 ILS fixed spread
Example:
3.2160-0.017=3.1990
$500,000 – $1,000,000 0.015 ILS fixed spread
Example:
3.2160-0.015=3.2010
0.016 ILS fixed spread
Example:
3.2160-0.016=3.2000
$1,000,000+ 0.013 ILS fixed spread
Example:
3.2160-0.013=3.2030
0.014 ILS fixed spread
Example:
3.2160-0.014=3.2020
**We have a special rate for Non-Profit Organizations. For any conversion over $30,000 we take a spread of 0.014 to help you keep doing good with your organization.

Full example: 25,000 USD → ILS (regular transfer)

Screenshot 2026-01-26 103910

  • Indicative market rate: 1 USD = 3.1360 ILS.

  • Tier: 25,000 – 500,000 USD, regular transfer.

  • Spread: 0.0160 ILS per 1 USD is subtracted.

  • Estimated net rate: 3.1360 − 0.0160 = 3.1200 ILS per 1 USD.

Example: 25,000 USD → ILS (real‑estate payment)

  • Same indicative market rate: 1 USD = 3.1360 ILS.

  • Tier: 25,000 – 500,000 USD, real‑estate payment.

  • Spread: 0.0170 ILS per 1 USD is subtracted

  • Estimated net rate on final summary: 3.1360 − 0.0170 = 3.1190 ILS per 1 USD.

Important: on the first conversion screen, you only select the amount, so the calculator applies the regular tier spread. You choose the conversion purpose / type of real estate later, so the extra 0.001 ILS per 1 USD is applied only on the final review/summary screen, not on the initial conversion view.

3. ILS → foreign currency  (for example, ILS →USD) - buying dollars

Using an example rate of 1 USD = 3.2160 ILS

The following tiers are:

You buy (USD) Margin from market rate (regular transfer)
$10,000 – $25,000
From 0.0425 improving to 0.017
Minimum trade amount: $10K – rate improves as trade grows
$25,000 – $500,000 0.017 ILS fixed spread
Example:
3.2160-0.017=3.1990
$500,000 – $1,000,000 0.016 ILS fixed spread
Example:
3.2160-0.016=3.2000
$1,000,000+ 0.014 ILS fixed spread
Example:
3.2160-0.014=3.2020

Example: ILS amount ≈ 25,000 USD (regular transfer)

In the case of converting 80,000 ILS → USD:Screenshot 2026-01-26 104426

  • Indicative market rate: 1 USD = 3.1360 ILS.

  • Tier: amount in the 25,000 – 500,000 USD equivalent, regular transfer.

  • Spread: 0.0170 ILS per 1 USD is added.

  • Estimated net rate: 3.1360 + 0.0170 = 3.1530 ILS per 1 USD.

Please note: for ILS → foreign currency payments, an additional fee of $38 (or the equivalent amount in the currency you are buying) is charged.
